Magic the Gathering the Strategy Board Game was presented at Essen 2014 at the booth of Hasbro Games and we had the chance to take a closer look.
This is a game for 2-5 players, where players assume the role of powerful Planeswalkers and battle others on the steppes of Shandalar.
Chandra Nalaar, Jace Beleren, Nissa Revane and Liliana Vess where the characters used for the demo, and another fifth character will be revealed later on. Several classic mechanics from the card game have been incorporated to the board game, which are essentially linked to the character powers, however the board game offers a unique experience.
Quoting the press FAQ for the game:
In the Magic: The Gathering Strategy Board Game, players customize the battlefield by designing the map then placing terrain and powerful glyphs. Then players choose one of five different Planeswalkers and move their figure and unique creature squads around the map in a race to out-maneuver opponents and gain tactical advantages! Cast devastating spells, summon powerful squads, and tap into your unique Planeswalker abilities to defeat your opponents. Be the last Planeswalker standing to win!
Lastly is should be noted that MtG the Strategy Board Game is from the creator of Heroscape, which makes this game surely one many people will anticipate.
