Get ready to travel to a dark fantasy world full of mystery and take the role of a hero who is trying to complete several missions by gathering clues and dealing with many dangers.
In The Witcher Adventure Game every player takes the role of one of the four available heroes of the game and starts their journey through a fantasy world, where they are called to kill bloodthirsty monsters, gather clues and solve mysteries, with the sole purpose of completing their quests, that will provide them with the VP needed to win the game.
Number of players: 2-4
Average duration: 90’
Gameplay: The four heroes are in the heart of the game, each with their own unique action, unique characteristics and a special set of cards which they use to arm themselves with items, skills and allies. These characteristics differentiate the heroes from one another and make them play differently, therefore adding to the variety of the gameplay.
Downtime: Every player on their turn chooses and does two of the available actions and then counters the threats in the area they have ended their turn in. A simple and short process that keeps downtime to a minimum.
Difficulty Level: Event though the Witcher Adventure Game is a rich game with enough depth, it manages to be simple enough in its gameplay and does not tire the players.
Component Quality: Both the materials that have been used in the manufacturing process as well as the art of the components are excellent, with the four miniatures being the highlight of them all.
Setup Time: Setup time is very little bearing in mind the rich game components as well as the depth that the game offers.
Replayability: Along with the four heroes of the game, the various mission, event and exploration cards add to the variety of the game and will offer you every time you play a different experience.
Interaction: Even though the interaction between players is something that can happen in a direct or indirect way, it is very limited and depending on the way each gamer plays, it could also be absent.
Rules: The fact that the game has two rule books, one reference guide and one learn how to play book is a positive characteristic that could make the learning process very easy and less tiring. However, their structure does not make them easy to use, since many useful and key information is spread in both books.
The theme of the game will surely attract some new players and its limited difficulty level is something that will help them enjoy the game. The theme emerges in the game, and those who are already familliar with the universe of the Witcher will surely feel they return to places they know. However it is not sure that those who visit the world for the first time will manage become one with it.
Who is it for:
Family Gamer: Maybe. The theme of the game will surely repel enough of the players of this category, however the lack of direct competition and the fairly simple and easy gameplay along with the rich gaming experience it offers will satisfy enough of them.
Social Gamer: No. The limited number of players in combination wih the depth and its duration make the Witcher Adventure Game prohibitive for that category of players.
Strategy Gamer: No. The fact that the game focuses more on creating the feeling of a great adventure and less on creating multiple strategies and tactical choices in combination with the presence of dice is sure to repel the gamers of this catecory.
Hobby Gamer: Yes. The rich and beatiful components of the game, the very interesting and easy gameplay as well as the theme of the game are sure to fully satisfy all the gamers of the category.
Hardcore Gamer: Maybe. The lack of direct competition in combination with the relatively simple gameplay will repel many of the gamers of this category. The theme and the satisfactory depth and the variety of the game however will satisfy some of them.
