In Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn players assume the roles of powerful demigods, known as Phoenixborns and confront each other as they try to fulfill an ancient prophecy in which the Phoenixborn who will manage to collect the ashes of several other converts into a god.
Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn is a competitive card game in which every player has at their disposal a deck of cards of various spells, creatures, equipment etc. and try to destroy the opponent Phoenixborn (or Phoenixbors depending on number of players)

Gameplay: While the Ashes maintains the core concepts of a classic competitive card game, it also features many special characteristics and showcases its own "personality". The feature that stands out at first glance is definitely the dice, which are the resources you need to use your cards, while they also have their own abilities too. Another feature is that at the beginning of each game the players choose their starting hand, something that perfectly describes the Ashes, as it is a game in which strategy and tactics outweigh luck by far. Furthermore, each round you will have at your disposal multiple interesting options and almost never find yourself trapped into just one "correct" choice because of your cards, or even none at all.
Downtime: Although strategy and a variety of options are key features of the title, the fact that the players have a limited number of actions available is something that makes the game flow very fast, while increasing the level of strategy and tactics even more.
Luck vs Strategy: The mere existence of the dice in the game will create the impression of some presence of the luck factor. However, the results of the dice will in no case determine the winner of a game, furthermore players have the ability to reconfigure one or more of their dice in different ways.
Component Quality: The quality of the contents of the title and the overall presentation is excellent, with the custom dice and the card illustration creating a beautiful and impressive presentation on the table, while everything is also very clean and comprehensible.
Replayability: The game includes seven preconstructured decks right in the box. Alternatively you may want to create your own unique deck as the contents of the game offer a huge range of options, while finally the game can also support draft format for up to 4 players.
Difficulty: Although as mentioned above the Ashes retains the general characteristics of the category immediately there are many details and particularities on the rules, which require time to be fully acquainted with them.
Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn is a game which will satisfy completely and surprise the lovers of this games category, with its particular and distinctive features, the emphasis on strategy and options, its quick and dynamic way of playing, the beautiful presentation and certainly the completeness of the box, which is much fuller than other games of the category. Certainly as with all games of this genre, its success in the long term will largely depend on whether it will be support by its publishing company.
