After the success of Dwar7s Fall, game designer and illustrator Luis Brueh is back with a new, zealous, area control board game that pays tribute to awesome cartoon characters from the 80s. Vesuvius Media launche rueh's Covil: The Dark Overlords on Kickstarter Saturday, June 10.
In Covil, players take on the role of a Dark Overlord and struggle for supremacy of the regions surrounding an isolated town. Each player has unique powers and countless minions to help them defend against enemy hordes and bring peace to the territories (at a cost, of course!).
“Covil is a game about being a villain, getting control of a town, and beating your enemies to the ground,” said Brueh, “but it is also a metaphor for the end of the childhood, about getting complete control over your life and winning against the threats that lie in the path you choose to follow. This is also the reason why I chose to pay tribute to animation characters from my childhood.”
Vesuvius Media will produce the game in English, and has partnered with the Brazilian company Mandala Jogos to produce the game in Portuguese. Thanks to the extraordinary game community and volunteers, downloadable PDFs of the rulebook and playing cards will be available in French, Greek, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.
“We couldn't be happier with this game,” said Konstantinos Manos, CEO and Lead Game Designer of Vesuvius Media. “It's extremely fun, by a designer we love. We can't wait to get it on tables!”
Covil is a family friendly (recommended age 9+), area control board game for 1 to 4 players. Playing time: 30-45 min. The Kickstarter campaign's funding goal of $15,000 was reached and several goals have already unlocked. The campaign will run until July 3, 2017.
